The Story
This is the story of Brighteyes (also known as Lawrence John Silverstein) who began clowning in 1995, at a place called Paxton Street Home. As I worked and lived there I became part of their lives for both the good times and the bad times. I listened to their hearts and looked into their eyes and the one thing that became real to me was that a caring clown was needed. Someone with big ears and a bigger heart that would be there for them when they needed it. Someone that could be off the wall and also have both big feet on the ground, who could bring joy and happiness and even a smile or two. In 1995 Paxton Street Home opened up to the community and the opportunity for Brighteyes to emerge from the secret place in my heart came into being. Brighteyes's first outfit was a little rough around the edges, but it was what it was. Some old clothes, a home made red nose and a home made wig. The wig was a clean new mop head the color of blue and not too bad for a start. By the way, I have decided to let the pros make my wigs from now on. As you can see my outfit was what it was, but the light of seeing smiles and hearing laughter grows brighter and brighter as time goes by.

A Clown Blessing
May your nose be red and shiny, And your smile always bright. May your cheeks be nice & rosy, Your eyes sparkle in the light. ~ May your shoes be always too big, Your costume be perma-pressed, Your heart overflow with laughter, Every time your clown is dressed. ~ May face paint be at the ready, And your balloons be "easy-blow." May children run to greet you, Wherever you may go.
